Prototype of Mobile Teleccomunications Network Management System
With the increasing complexity and scale of mobile communication networks, technologies for network management are becoming critical for network operators to control the quality of services and operational expenditures (OPEX). Telecom operators, network equipment vendors and external consultancy companies are employing significant technological and human resources for network management activities, from the integration of new networks to performance monitoring and optimisation of existing ones.
Today's mobile communication networks consist of different generations of cellular networks (inter-Radio Access Technologies, such as GSM and WCDMA) and complementary systems such as wireless local area networks (WLANs) based on different communication standards (WiFi and WiMAX). With the deployment of WCDMA HSPA and with the latest promise of even more link capacity using LTE in conjunction with next generation core networks, operators are already delivering ever increasing number of mobile broadband services to users.
The benefit of these networks, such as great diversity and huge capacity, cannot be fully exploited without an intelligently coordinated system configuration, performance optimisation, and resource management.
On the other hand, the extraordinary scale and complexity of such networks mean that the network will be difficult to manage and prone to faults. These networks demand highly skilled professionals to carry out fault correction and routine maintenance, thus resulting in high OPEX.
Episteme Systems is engaged in prototyping a Telecommunications Network Management Toolset for planning, design, optimisation, integration and troubleshooting of second (GSM), third (UMTS) and fourth generation (LTE) mobile networks.
Our product will offer a complete solution to complex, highly laborious, manual, often error-prone and repetitive tasks by automating the execution and keeping the complex system consistent during all of the phases of its development. As a consequence of keeping the information consistent throughout its life-cycle, the product is also an ideal solution for troubleshooting and optimisation of complex mobile networks.
For instance, our product will integrate network planning information, usually created by one group of professionals, with information from network integration activities, usually performed by another group of professionals, keeping the network configuration data consistent all of the time. Its built-in decision support system enables planning and executing of network optimisation as well as ad-hoc network troubleshooting.
